1983 Turbo 245 Empty
PostSubject: 1983 Turbo 245   1983 Turbo 245 EmptyMon Aug 02, 2010 5:30 pm

Paid for and picking it up friday.

It's a 1983 NON intercooled turbo wagon.

1983 Turbo 245 KodakZ915Photos632

I paid 300 for it.

He said it had a burnt valve and he replaced that. He says the timing belt keeps slipping off the tensioner though. I think the timing belt tensioner is bent and I need to buy another one.

The original owner, while driving it, was hit by a fire truck and thats why the passenger side door is a little....eh....beat up.

He also said it has been sitting and has not ran in 2 years....which scares me since there is only a 1/4 tank.
so hopefully just the gas is stale and the gas tank isn;t bad. It also hasn't been on the road since 93 but was stored in his garage. He has only had the car outside for a couple of days so the rust isn't too bad.

Plans are to fix the floor boards and buy a new tensioner and see if that keeps the timing belt from slipping off. Also it needs a radiator, but I have one so no worries.

Hopefully this car will be my turbo project car Very Happy

Can't go wrong with blue.
Drop the tank and clean it anyway.
Shooting that crap through the fuel system is not how you make friends with K-jet.

One look at the sender and you'll know what you're in for.

I like it nick, once you clean it up and get it running I'm sure you will have quite the nice car.

I can get you the pieces you need to intercool if you want.

Congrats on the car Smile

Dont fear K-jet, its actually a very robust system. Think the reason for its bad rep is that it usually have not been serviced for like 10+ years. As mentioned its very important that the fuel system is clean of debris, or you will get into all kinds of trouble.

Basic k-jet tuneup and service :
1. Clean the fuel tank, all fuel lines and injectors.
2. Change fuel and air filter.
3. Make sure both fuel pumps are working, and they get enough voltage at the pumps.
4. Check for vacuum leaks, k-jet dont like em.
5. Check fuel and control pressure.
6. The fuelpump relay often go bad (solder joints), keep an extra in the glovebox.

When you get to the point where you need moar boost, remember there is a limit what k-jet can supply, limit is around 200-220hp on stock k-jet. If you got the T(ractor) cam change it to something else A, B, V, K or alike, unless you plan to do some farming Razz

Have fun Very Happy (kjet.org is your friend)

I actually like kjet. When it works right, it is insanely smooth.

I need a different cam soon for sure.

Nice find.
Looks like the floor boards can be glassed up with POR & cloth.

Those floors really don't look too bad for it being a northern car.

If it still walks off the tensioner after you change it you can shim behind the cam. Or remove if there's one already.
Sometimes happens.

We're going to bury you in the sand if you swap LH into that car and never get it to run.

Ok good, just wanted to be sure you were going to drain it before you cranked it.

Diamond in the rough, looks like fun.
